BOBBY GOODSPEED

Notable

Inducted 2026

Bobby Goodspeed grew up roping. His father was renowned calf roper and it only followed that he would be one too. He competed in Little Britches and High School Rodeo, earning the American Junior Rodeo Association Calf Roping and All-Around Championships from 1954-1956. From there, he bought his RCA card at 18 in 1958 and qualified for the first National Finals Rodeo in 1959.

Goodspeed wrote that one of the most important parts to success was “having a good horse and a lot of luck.” He definitely had those as he won many of the PRCA’s biggest rodeos including Cheyenne, Denver, and Albuquerque. He deserves some of the credit for qualifying to twelve National Finals (1959, 1962-63, 1967-71, 1974-77). He missed the 1970 title due to a broken barrier and won the NFR Average in 1975. During his career, Goodspeed won twelve NFR rounds and placed 35 times.

Along with his NFR qualifications, Goodspeed won six Great Lakes Circuit Calf Roping titles (1975-77; 1980-82) and one All-Around title (1977). His last qualification to the Great Lakes Circuit Finals was in 1996 at the age of 58.

In 1978, Goodspeed became a judge for the PRCA. He traveled to all the major rodeos for the PRCA for over 30 years. He retired from judging at the age of 82.

Born October 21, 1938 in Okemah, Oklahoma
